This past week we celebrated our son’s 5th Birthday. Wow. I cannot believe we have a 5 year old!! He is so full of energy and loud and wild and crazy, and we absolutely love him! But…our biggest struggle lately has been transitions and screen time. He hardly ever gets to watch TV (I’m talking not even a couple hours a week) because I don’t want to deal with the tantrum that inevitably follows. I can’t even count how many times we have said we want to burn the TV…that would solve everything right? Just not have it in the house and it’s not an issue!

But mom’s. They start using Google apps and iPads for homework in KINDERGARTEN. To me it’s just crazy and if I could avoid it I would; but I can’t. And so, we continue to work on it.

You might be wondering what does this have to do with my son turning 5? Let me tell you. Deciding what to get him for a birthday gift was DIFFICULT. I wanted to find him something that would excite him and distract him to play! And not be so obsessed with the TV  – we wanted to find the perfect gift for him.

So what did we get the birthday boy?!?!

THIS RC Toy Stunt Car:

Here is why I like this car and the reason it is so perfect for a toddler or kid boy:

  1. It’s electronic
  2. It still has a remote control
  3. It lights up
  4. It plays music (and mom’s – it’s not annoying to listen to!)
  5. It challenges him to work on hand/eye coordination
  6. It looks crazy – which all boys love 🙂

For Chris and I, we thought it would be JUST techy enough to satisfy that in him, but not have him sitting in front of a video game or movie.

The ONLY downside that I have found so far is the battery life is short – about 15 minutes of solid playing and needs to charge for 2-3 hours. But that seems to be standard for all RC toy cars and so we decided it was worth it to buy a second battery.

The one compatible for this particular car model can be found here:

Overall this is a fantastic gift for any boy or girl
